PEQUOD, named after Captain Ahab’s ship from the novel Moby Dick, are a Death-Thrash Metal band from Munich, Germany. The current line-up was established in 2013 and consists of members from the bands HAGGARD and DARKSEED. In short, PEQUOD’s weaponry can be described as a mix of "Bay Area Thrash" and "Swedish Death Metal". Their latest masterpiece “False Divinity” was released in 2016 and convinced metalheads worldwide with compact and catchy songwriting. Numerous live shows made PEQUOD well-known not only for expressive stage acting but also for professional and brute performances. Witness this new force of brutality at KALTENBACH OPEN AIR 2020.

HellMetAll @ Kaltenbach Open Air 2020 (15th anniversary)

The Italian band HELLMETALL was founded in 2010. The 5-piece defines its style as Folk Thrash Metal with Resian lyrics, a Slavic language spoken in the band’s home region, the Resia Valley. Generally, their music and lyrics are about World War I & II, emphasizing the brutality of both. In 2013, HELLMETALL released their first demo named “J.S.K.D.” while the debut album “Śa našo śëmjo” (translation: “For our land”), including twelve tracks of violence and folklore, was released just two years later via the American label Sliptrick Records. Morost @ Kaltenbach Open Air 2020 (15th anniversary)

MOROST was founded in 2010 by ex-members of the Doom Metal band Cold Dew with the desire to create complex and progressive Death Metal. After a few years of fine-tuning, the band recorded their debut album “Solace In Solitude” which was released in 2014. By releasing this masterpiece, the band soon became one of the most popular underground metal bands from Slovenia. In October 2002, MAN MUST DIE were formed in the underbelly of Glasgow, Scotland. The quartet released its first full length album “…Start Killing” in May 2004 and worked steadily to promote their deviancy in the UK and abroad. The next album “The Human Condition” (2007) perfectly captured the band's ferocity and mixed both their melodic and brutal sides with a more considered and mature approach to song writing. !!! NARGAROTH cancel show at Kaltenbach Open Air 2020 (15th anniversary) !!!

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that René Wagner alias Ash decided that NARGAROTH will not perform at KALTENBACH OPEN AIR 2020. Yesterday, NARGAROTH’s booking agency informed us about the circumstances and forwarded the following statement of Ash:

"I herewith announce that NARGAROTH will not play at the KALTENBACH OPEN AIR - Festival in August 2020. For some it sucks, for others it doesn’t matter. Yet, it is what it is and if it worsens my reputation so be it. Thanks to Redback Promotion for trying to set up some shows in Europe. They had nothing to do with my decision. I just want to play elsewhere where I haven’t been yet. Ash"

In the given situation, we want to make clear that this cancellation is neither caused by us, the organizational team of KALTENBACH OPEN AIR, nor the band’s booking agency. This cancellation is solely caused by Ash’s decision to consider other show offers. Some keep their word others do not. Anyway, we want to apologize for any inconveniences caused by Ash’s decision but we are quite sure that other bands will step in and that our anniversary will still be one hell of a party.

The release of the seventh full-length album "Kong Vinter" undoubtedly cemented the reputation of TAAKE’s enigmatic founder and frontman Hoest of being one of those rare artists who manage to keep alive the old Norwegian spirit of Black Metal. But not only does he succeed in keeping the original spirit alive, he also manages to breathe fresh life into in a genre which has become very faceted and fractured. With a live line-up consisting of skilled and highly experienced musicians, TAAKE has also become a force to be reckoned with on stages worldwide. Hoest's charismatic persona and powerful presence combined with an extensive back-catalogue make TAAKE's live rituals something unique and varied. Regardless of whether they take place in an intimate club setting or large festival arenas, TAAKE's shows, like TAAKE's albums, have over the years garnered high praise from fans and critics alike. After over two decades and seven highly acclaimed albums, some of which are regarded as quintessential Black Metal classics and one of which received a nomination for the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammys (Spellemanns-prisen), TAAKE's sound still remains fresh and relevant today. It is the quality of the studio outputs combined with the band's dynamic live shows that has ensured that the legions of old fans remain faithful and that new fans still come a-flocking to get a taste of TAAKE's Helnorsk Svartmetall. Sodom @ Kaltenbach Open Air 2020 (15th anniversary)

While rumours are still flying thick and fast in the media, Tom Angelripper has already announced the new line-up of his band SODOM: Husky (Asphyx, ex-Desaster) is set to man the drum kit, Frank Blackfire (ex-Sodom, ex-Kreator, Assassin) and Yorck Segatz (Beyondition) have been enlisted on guitars. Two guitarists, an absolute novelty for SODOM: “Two guitarists allow us much more possibilities live. So we will be able to play tracks in future that we weren’t able to perform as a trio”, the vocalist/bassist explains his motives. In line with these new possibilities, the thrash act has already started to put together a setlist for the upcoming shows with all important classics as well as rare numbers that had never or only rarely been heard live. In Frank Blackfire, Yorck Segatz and Husky, Tom has consciously gone for musicians from his own background: “It’s common knowledge that all three are exceptional instrumentalists and that heavy metal is their life. But SODOM is also about getting on on a personal level. The new band members are all dyed-in-the-wool SODOM fans and all live in Essen”. While the guys have just moved into their new rehearsal room (Tom: “As it happens exactly where it all started back in 1982!”), the SODOM mastermind is already looking to the future. “The direction of the new material already stands: ready for action and full of adrenaline, SODOM are set to celebrate the glorious days of the 1980s old school thrash that we all grew up with and that the band has always been celebrated for”. SepticFlesh @ Kaltenbach Open Air 2020 (15th anniversary)

SEPTICFLESH are painting an apocalyptic vision and make full use of their impressive musical palette consisting of death metal and orchestral colours on their tenth full-length, 'Codex Omega'.

From their alpha EP 'Temple of the Lost Race' that was released one year after their founding in 1990, the Greek musicians have pushed the limits of the metal genre and continued to explore new sonic path with every following release from their debut album 'Mystic Places of Dawn' (1994) to the stunning 'Sumerian Daemons' (2003), which have in the meantime all been re-issued by Season of Mist.

Yet SEPTICFLESH had clearly come into their own sound when they unleashed their celebrated comeback album after a five-year hiatus that re-charged their artistic batteries. 'Communion' (2008) offered a well-balanced amalgamation of metal elements that were freely drawn from the darker side of the genre including death, black, and gothic metal with epic orchestral arrangements. This symphonic excellence was based on guitarist Christos Antoniou bringing to bear the fruits of his academic studies of classical composition, which he passed with honours and distinction.

With a clear musical compass to navigate, SEPTICFLESH continued to explore their sound and the compositional possibilities of this new-found metal continent. 'The Great Mass' (2011) and 'Titan' (2014) saw the Greeks evolving at fast speed and at the same time gathering adherents as well as critical praise in ever growing numbers. Extended touring on both sides of the Atlantic and performances at about every important festival further consolidated the bands burgeoning status.

Although the biblical omega marks the end, SEPTICFLESH on the contrary are reaching their current peak with 'Codex Omega', an album that clearly witnesses the Greek visionaries having come to maturity and expert craftsmanship in every sense. SEPTICFLESH are the undisputable masters of symphonic death metal and 'Codex Omega' is the perfect proof for this bold statement.
